Costume Research

Image
The costume chosen for my film opening will not be very extreme, as my film opening is linked to the everyday life my costume will be very casual and teenage like.  As my film opening will be associated with teenagers, the costume and props will be more elaborated but yet very simple. As I discussed with the people participating in my film opening, and also helping me film about the costume they think would be more suitable for the teenage characters, we chose casual and very simple. The bullies particularly could be wearing exaggerated clothes as it resembles seeking attention, and for the girl being bullied we can make her wear more props than actually clothes, as the clothes will be very simple the props could be there to resemble who she is.  As our target audience will be mainly teenage girls, I have asked some friends to give me feedback on my chosen costume for the film opening.  The feedback was very positive but perhaps we could swap the characters costumes and...

Ideas and Inspirations

Image
A GIRL LIKE HER  A girl like her is a film that really influenced my ideas, it gave me the chance to get inspirations and then later on in my film opening to incorporate my interpretation of what bullying is. Bullying is a really important matter, so being able to do a film opening about it and express how i feel about it, it's great. "A girl like her" is about a girl that gets bullied at school and also through the internet, she has a hidden camera on her and every bullying scene was filmed, and later on showed to the police when the girl attempts to commit suicide. The clear shots of the film, and the constant miss-en-scene capture my attention because it was really simple yet it had a really big significance. The process of my filming will be very carefully done because I want to reflect my interpretation of what bullying is through my camera angles and my shots.  Watching various movies, that include verbal or physical violence really inspired me to make my o...

Video Film Opening - Idea Update

IDEA UPDATE My idea is to deliver a message to my intended audience and make them think about what is happening, self reflection after watching a film is very important. Once you think about what is happening in the film, you start to enjoying  and  focusing more. My idea for the film opening, is to begin with a teenage girl that took a whole bottle of pills and committed suicide, then it will cut to black and the voice over will go back in time, where shots of what lead her to commit suicide begin to appear.  The main character, the girl that attempts to commit suicide will be me, and I will have another 3 characters that are the antagonists of the film opening. My film opening revolves mainly around bullying and how I see it, my interpretation is going to be seen in my Film opening.

BBFC ( British Board of Film Classification )

Film title fonts research

Image
The cyberbully film cover is quite empty and I would say isolated, the girl sitting in the middle is really effective because it defines the word in big bold letter Cyberbully. The girl sitting in the middle is alone, and seems very scared and has a laptop near her, the imagery of bullying is being communicated to the audience through the person shown in this cover. "Words can hurt" in black letter which makes you spot it straight away because everything else in the image is in white, perhaps this was done to catch the audience's attention in that particular phrase. The background is very embracing and comforting, the colour blue almost makes it seem like a peaceful atmosphere because blue as a colour has the connotations of being associated with depth and stability, which is the juxtaposition of the context of this film. Blue is also associated with confidence, faith and trust, but the blue background and the faded words also in the background juxtapose because the wor...

Primary audience Research (Qualitative Data)

Qualitative Data: What film genre do you enjoy the most? and why? Answer 1- "I really enjoy drama, because every film with drama has a climax. The climax creates curiosity among the audience, and thats what excites me the most because it is also interesting to have a moment in the film where you don't know whats about to happen next" Answer 2- "Horror is the best, it just has every element to scare you but also make you think. It's great."  How old are you? Answer 1- "I am 17" Answer 2- "I am 16"  Do you enjoy watching movies at home or at the cinema? and Why? Answer 1- "Watching it at home is definitely more comfortable and cosy, you can just enjoy it with you family in the sofa with some blankets but I rather go to the cinema simply because the film itself looks more realistic and at the cinema there's no distractions."  Answer 2- "I would say both are good, but the cinema definitely pr...

Textual Analysis

Image
For my textual analysis, I'm going to be looking at the film cyber bullying simply because it links to my own idea.  To begin with, this medium close up on the girl connotes intensity and concentration, this suggests the common stereotype that teenagers are addicted to the internet.  The girl's stern facial expression connotes distress and alarm, implying something is bothering her on the laptop. The placing of the laptop towards the right of the shot connotes a presence of the online world, as the converged device gives access to online risks.  This particular shot encourages the audience to keep watching as it becomes interesting at first sight, the internet has  negative and positive impact on people around the world, so the intended audience  for this particular film would be teenagers but also adults that are already parents might feel interested to watch, so the audience can vary from teenagers to adults.  This shot connotes iconography o...

Institutional Research

Institutional Research:   My chosen film was Willy Wonka and the chocolate factory , which was produced by Warner bros. Warner bros: is an American entertainment company owned by Time warner.  Other films they also took part in are; Suicide Squad, The Lego movie and Storks. Their audience is mainly young children, because most of their collaborations and made film are fantasy or adventure. It suits a young audience because the Warner Bros, know exactly what their audiences are looking for and what is going to capture their attention. The audience can vary in gender, it can be girls but mostly boys as the films made are adventure and boy fantasy. The Warner Bros is an independent company, their name originates from the four founding Warner brothers.  Warner's bros is a very independent company, which produces films and corporate with other companies to make their films successful. Warner bros has subsidiaries including turner entertainment.  In my opinion Warne...

Analyzing Cinematography

Image
The Conjuring This camera angle is called long shot (LS), and it was used in the conjuring to reveal the character and build the atmosphere of fear and horror. This LS was used to set the scene and help the audience to understand the characters and also the context of the film. This camera angle can also be known as establishing shot . In the conjuring the medium long shot was used so the audience has a closer look at the facial expressions as well as the body language of a certain character. The main focus is the context of the film and the situation the character is in.  The medium long shot also makes the audience feel closer to the character as they are exposed to being so close. This camera angle is called medium close up, it allows the audience to have a deeper understanding of the characters and see their facial expressions. If the conjuring used this camera angle I assume they wanted to audience to focus in only one subje...

Mise-en-scene (Denotation, Connotation.)

Image
1. Denotation: The images of the video are quite old, and faded. The first thing I spotted was Buildings, the camera angle is birds-eye-view. The videos and images are fading one on top of the other.  The colour of the images and videos are very antique and hardly clear to see.   I see Guns and soldiers, people all together in just one place.  the colours, The colours remain the same throughout the whole video and the images are very blurry.  There is a strike happening in the video, and the police is also there. I see men in suits and important buildings. 2. Connotation: The buildings shown in this video seem very important, because they keep appearing throughout the video.  The buildings might suggest an important event or place. The dark, antique and faded colours give the sensation that this event happened in the past, due to the dark colours I would also suggest that the event happening in the video might be obscure. The people s...

Genre Research

DRAMA GENRE  Drama film is a genre that relies on the emotional and relational development of realistic characters. While drama film relies heavily on this kind of development, dramatic themes play a large role in the plot as well. Often, these dramatic themes are taken from intense, real life issues. Whether heroes or heroines are facing a conflict from the outside or a conflict within themselves, Drama film aims to tell an honest story of human struggles.  My main chosen genre would be drama but I also have a sub-genre which is Tragedy, which fits in the drama genre. Tragedy drama is a genre wherein the downfall of the character is caused by a flaw within the character. While tragedy dramas sometime put the character in extraordinary circumstances, this genre is really about the self-destructive behaviour of the character.  Drama and tragedy are my chosen genres because I though about keeping my film opening quite realistic and ...

Preliminary Exercise

Image
For the preliminary exercise we had to incorporate shot reverse shot, 180 degree rule and also match and action. The exercise was successful because we all worked well together as a group to keep the camera angles clear and basic, and to complete the task. As it was our first time filming with a good camera, we had to be careful to keep the camera still and spot all the actions in a clean shot. The camera had many tools, but as a group we went over it and helped each other out through the process of filming the preliminary exercise.

Prelim Script

Two young girls catch up on a conversation on the first day of school. The two sit in a classroom and get very entertained.   The first girl walks through the corridor (wide shot) and she calmly opens the classroom door (close up on handle) and then she walks to the table where she sees her friend (wide shot). (Establishing shot) Girl 1: Hey, are you okay? ( Shot Over the shoulder ) Girl 2: Hey, yeah am good you? Girl 1: am fine, thanks. How was your summer holiday? Girl 2: Oh, it was really good. I went to Spain what about you? Girl 1: That's great! And I stayed in England, I was working all summer. Girl 2: That's good. Well I have to go now, I will see you later. Girl 1: Okay, see you later. Girl 1 walks out(Wide Shot).

Camera Angles

Image
Shot reverse Shot:    Shot reverse shot (or shot\countershot) is a film technique where one character is shown looking at another character (often off-screen), and then the other character is shown looking back at the first character. This shot is taken over the shoulder and it should always be recorded in the side which would link to continuity. Match on action: Refers to film editing and video editing techniques where the editor cuts from one shot to another view that matches the first shot's action. A common example is a man walking up to door and reaching for the knob. 180 degree rule:   The 180 degree rule is a cinematography guideline that states that two characters in a scene should maintain the same left/right relationship to one another. When the camera passes over the invisible axis connecting the two subjects. it is called crossing the line and the shot because what  is called a reverse angle. Continuity Editing: Gives the ...

The main task

All video and audio material must be original, produced by the candidate(s), with the exception of music or audio effects from a copyright-free source.
