Costume Research


  • The costume chosen for my film opening will not be very extreme, as my film opening is linked to the everyday life my costume will be very casual and teenage like.  As my film opening will be associated with teenagers, the costume and props will be more elaborated but yet very simple. As I discussed with the people participating in my film opening, and also helping me film about the costume they think would be more suitable for the teenage characters, we chose casual and very simple. The bullies particularly could be wearing exaggerated clothes as it resembles seeking attention, and for the girl being bullied we can make her wear more props than actually clothes, as the clothes will be very simple the props could be there to resemble who she is.  As our target audience will be mainly teenage girls, I have asked some friends to give me feedback on my chosen costume for the film opening.  The feedback was very positive but perhaps we could swap the characters costumes and draw more attention to the girl being bullied. 



  • Ugly Betty really helped me to represent the costumes that I will be using for my main character in my film opening, the costume is a really important element because it reflects the character and it helps the audience to distinguish which character is which. The costume and the props are represented in the picture, and it really has the connotation of careless and non-fashionable, the costume and props resemble who the character is and will determine whether or not the character will be judged by the audience. As my film is about bullying, if the main character, the character that is getting bullied wears careless clothes to show her simple personality will really highlight her personality which in the film opening will be revealed at times.

  • As a decided to change the idea of my film opening, my costume also changed. As my main character is a dead girl in the woods I decided to change the costume to more simple and all black, as black has the connotation of evil and death, it matched perfectly with the context of the film opening. Black resembled the girls death and her struggle.

Evaluation Question 6

6. What have you learn about technologies from the process of contracting this product?  Throughout the production of my media product, I have come across a lot of new softwares and technology which I have never used before. I have expanded my knowledge on other programmes I have used before such as Photoshop, I have learnt about lots of new editing skills using premier pro and after effects.  Video editing was one of the most helpful as I can take those skills and use it to future reference when I need it.  A very interesting programme was the Adobe colour wheel, this programme helped me expand my ideas of the different colour schemes, which I could use once I started editing my media product, which helped me gain inspiration for themes.  Blogger is also a website I have never used before, it's associated with Google which allows me to publish my own personal profile.
