4. Who would be the audience for your media product?

Once I started planning and researching to develop my media product, I decided to represent young teenage girls, going through bullying. My intended audience overall are teenage girls because the main character in my media product is also a teenage girl, so I thought it would be convenient to represent teenage girl thought the main character and her story. The gender of the main character was very hard to decide, as girl suffer bullying much more than boys, so if I wanted to get my message across, I had to make my intended audience want to watch the movie. So gender really helped me to represent my chosen social group.

The context of my media product overall, had to match my audiences thoughts and i also intended to make the audience identify themselves with the main character in my media product. The main character was one of the ways to represent teenage girls, but I also used symbolism to make this relevant and suitable for my intended audience. An object such as a phone, is very significant because stereotypically nowadays phones are considered to be used by teenagers the most, so including a phone in my media product really helped me to embrace my intended audience and make it clear that my media product represented teenagers. Age was a very important factor, as it would help me to persuade my intended audience to watch my media product, as my main character was also a teenager, it complimented the costume, which was simple and black, stereotypically how society sees teenagers dressing. I have represented class within my production through my main character, as she can be seen as middle class through the open shots, dealing with bullying. However, the way that she was dressed challenges the stereotype that the middle class are well presented even though, she was dead lying on the floor. But one of the reasons that young girls get bullied is because of what they wear or their class, poor or rich so I decided to make the social class relevant through the costume. Representing my intended audience within my media product was essential to convey my ideas. I decided to aim my media product to teenage girl once I started my primary and secondary research, I went around my school and selected a few people to ask questions. Majority of the people were girl and my age range.
