Evaluation Question 7
7. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to your final production?
The time management of both of my tasks were very difficult to master. In my preliminary task I spent so much time trying to make sure everything was perfect. I spent the same amount of time in my two tasks even though my final media product was harder to produce. I have learnt a lot of new things over the course of this task but I think the main thing learned was how to use After effects and premier pro. Without the skills I have learned from using After effects or Premier pro I would not be able to construct my media product to a high quality standard. Research and planning were essential stages of the construction of my media product and the development of my preliminary task. For my preliminary task research I looked at videos on YouTube and different film genres on google to help me construct my media product, I personally found it very helpful and I learned a lot from watching other people's work on YouTube so I could then find the inspiration for my own work.
Everything began when I chose to do the video prelim, the idea of making your own film opening was very creative and I willing to do the best to gain a good result at the end. The brief was very simple, researching was the first stage of the preliminary task, I researched about the different camera angles and shots, to get familiar with the preliminary task. I learnt about 80 degree rule and shot reverse shot, which then helped me decided what scenario I was going to add to my preliminary task, learning about the different camera angles was really helpful and it really made a difference on my final product, when I began to be more confident about different camera angles, I began to picture my media product and what camera angles would be suitable for my story line. I saw my preliminary task as an improvement, and every time I had doubts about a certain camera angle or about a scenario, I looked back at my video prelim and give myself feedback on what to improve. Looking back at my preliminary task, planning was very important for my prelim as well as my media product, during my planning stage, I had to decided the location of the filming, the people I would want to include in it and the most obvious one, the weather conditions. My preliminary task definitely helped me decide my location for my media product, as my Prelim task was filmed in school at the time, looking back at it, I decided to film my media product somewhere else to keep it more original and realistic. The planning stage of my final production was much more intense than the prelim task, as I decided to produce it outdoors, which effected me in a way because of the changes of weather constantly but I think that I got a much better satisfying and good result by filming outdoors because when I decided to film my prelim task in school, my prelim task had no base or story line, so I definitely learnt to choose my location carefully. The production of my preliminary task was a challenge as it was my first time doing it, but I had help from the teacher as well as my research about camera angles really helped me get my prelim task done. Editing was a challenged, but I have developed since my preliminary task. I have improved a lot my editing skills, and my knowledge about media products and different softwares has developed throughout my construction of my final media product.
